Potomac News Online | Woman fights development plans
One of the reasons behind her opposition, she said, stems from a citizen satisfaction survey that yielded the response that residents want more parks and open space.[...]
In addition to proffers for roadway improvements and building stacked parking decks on the property, the applicant would also acquire three acres at 13108 Fox Hill Drive for open space purposes and tree preparation, Burnszynski said.
The county also posted signs along Minnieville Road announcing the public hearing, but some were not visible when “going at 45 mph,” Hopkins said.
The Prince William Board of County Supervisors will have the ultimate say in what happens with Caton’s Ridge, even if the planning commission makes a recommendation for denial — a revelation that Hopkins said was disheartening.
Ok, if the people want more parks and open spaces, how about if the people buy the land themselves and make the parks and open spaces they want? What this says is that the people want someone else to provide them with more parks and open spaces, that they want someone else to pay for those things for them. Why should anyone expect this? Leaving the decision of how property can be used in the hands of zoning commission, planning commission or board of supervisors, or any other government entity is just stupid. Anyone that can bribe proffer the county enough is going to get what they want. If you own the property though, the only way they can get it is to buy it from you (or pull a New London on you).
