The Daily News Record: Letters to the Editor
No one that I know justifies the crimes of al-Qaida and Hezbollah, but the long history of tribal and national warfare should have taught us that we cannot solve terrorism by becoming terrorists ourselves, and what Israel has done to Lebanon is nothing short of state terrorism!

Found this intersting letter to the editor on the DNR.  While I am not an advocate of war, I can’t see how someone can equate Israel defending itself from Hezbollah to the actions of Hezbollah, or any other acts of terrorism.   Hezbollah has been lobbing rockets into Israel from the southern border for years, and Israel has done nothing.  When Hezbollah finally crossed a line and took two if Israel’s soldiers hostage, Israel decided that enough was enough, and held Lebanon accountable for the actions of Hezbollah, as Hezbollah was operating within the “sovereign” nation of Lebanon, and Lebanon was doing nothing to stop them.  Libertarian (and my own personal) view is that I’ll leave you alone if you leave me alone.  Lebanon was clearly not leaving Lebanon alone, so I don’t see what people’s problem is with them going after Hezbollah.  Israel has also gone out of their way to keep civilians out of the fighting, and Hezbollah has done the opposite, drawing them in and using them as shields and deterrants to retaliation.  It is Hezbollah that should be garnering everyone’s condemnation, not Israel.
