Liberty - An Interview with Michael Badnarik

Monday, May 22nd, 2006

I was just reading over an interview Michael Badnarik gave to Libertys R. W. Bradford and came across this section that I find particularly pertintant to the LP (emphasis added).

Liberty - An Interview with Michael Badnarik
Badnarik: Yes, because I represent the Libertarian Party. I don’t think that the Libertarian Party endorses that level of activism. I was doing that on my own for lack of any other venue for getting my message out. I had several people tell me that this was a compromise of values and I don’t necessarily see it that way. In order to accomplish things, there are times when we have to postpone our goals for an intermediate step.

From the many sources of libertarian news that I’ve been reading lately, I see a dichotomy in the party between the purists and the politicians (for lack of a better term for those in the party trying to negotiate to get things done). I think that the LP would be much more capable of accomplishing its goals if those of us who are purists would recognize that “you can’t always get what you want, but sometimes you get what you need”. What we want may be the abolition of the 16th amendment, but we can at least get what we currently need, reduction in the current spending levels, by getting libertarians elected, even if they don’t currently push for the abolition of the income tax. We need to take this one step at a time if we are to accomplish anything.

Alabama Police Intimidation Issue

Monday, May 22nd, 2006

Some interesting goings-on in Alabama over the weekend. Seems that the state is out to keep Loretta Nall off the ballot any way they can:

Hammer of Truth | Libertarian Community Weblog
Stephen Gordon - I just got off the air on Alabama’s major talk radio program about our ballot access petitioners being intimidated by the police last week while trying to collect signatures for Loretta Nall’s campaign in Alabama. Hosts Russ and Dee Fine were absolutely livid that University of Alabama-Birmingham police interfered with our obvious First Amendment rights. I had a power outage this morning, so I missed some of the program before I went on the air, but all but one of the callers I heard were equally upset. As an example, the caller right before I went on the air was calling “them” Nazis. […]

Don’t forget to donate. We could all use a breath of fresh air, whether we live in Alabama or not. Ms. Nall seems to be getting a lot of attention in the news lately, and I think that she could really have a chance at winning if she can make it onto the ballot. I’m also glad to see her getting some first class support from the guys over at HoT, thanks for all the work!

Seattle Public Schools | Definitions of Race(ism)

Seattle Public Schools | Definitions of Race
Cultural Racism:
Those aspects of society that overtly and covertly attribute value and normality to white people and Whiteness, and devalue, stereotype, and label people of color as “other”, different, less than, or render them invisible. Examples of these norms include defining white skin tones as nude or flesh colored, having a future time orientation, emphasizing individualism as opposed to a more collective ideology, defining one form of English as standard, and identifying only Whites as great writers or composers.

Yes, as we need more of a collective ideology, as we all know that it works out so well. That and no one should take individual responsibilty for their actions, as we all know that it is their parents/siblings/teachers/roommates/McDonalds (or better yet, the state’s) fault they didn’t turn out perfect.

And I love it how they provide a definition of racism showing that only Whites have ever been the “agent racial group”

Definitions of Racism Racism:
The systematic subordination of members of targeted racial groups who have relatively little social power in the United States (Blacks, Latino/as, Native Americans, and Asians), by the members of the agent racial group who have relatively more social power (Whites). The subordination is supported by the actions of individuals, cultural norms and values, and the institutional structures and practices of society.

Keep reading, and you’ll find the only examples they give are of this flavor:

Examples include telling a racist joke, using a racial epithet, or believing in the inherent superiority of whites.

Why do they only reference whites? Isn’t this racism?

RealClearPolitics - Articles - The Ensign Amendment Fiasco

RealClearPolitics - Articles - The Ensign Amendment Fiasco
The Senate has by a 50-49 vote allowed a provision to remain in the Immigration Bill allowing illegal aliens to claim Social Security benefits. There is no way to sugar-coat what a disaster this is for Republicans and for the country.

This is just absolutely insane. Of course, the entire social security program is insane, so why should this one more bit bother us. Here’s your list on who voted to table (kill) the Ensign amendment that would have taken this mess out of the bill.

What Country Do You Want To Be a Part Of?

Friday, May 19th, 2006

Good article over at QandO by Dale Franks on the only reason I can agree with to be against immigration, the fact that a lot of illegals seem to be against becoming Americans, and continuing to give their alleigence to wherever they came from. If you’re going to do that, why did you come here in the first place?
http://www.qando.net/ - What Country Do You Want To Be a Part Of?

At the end of the day, what matters isn’t the country you come from. All that matters is the country to which you owe your allegiance. If that is a country other than the United States of America, then you should be in that country, not here.
