Illegals and economic burden

WorldNetDaily: Americans fight back against illegals influx

I keep seeing more and more of this. I can understand peoples frustration with the drain that illegal aliens are currently placing on our economy, but what people fail to realize is that the aliens aren’t the real problem (at least not for the economy, security is another matter). The root of the problem is our welfare state. If we would cut the welfare handouts that we give to everyone (including illegal aliens) then there would be no economic problem. Privatize schools, illegals will have to pay for it. Privatize medicine and medical insurance, including getting rid of medicare/medicade and whatever other government funded programs are there. Illegals will have to pay their own medical bills. Illegals collecting welfare? Get rid of it, private charities do a much better and much more efficient job of providing a safety net for people unfortunate enough to lose their jobs and are unable to find one for a time. They’re also better at tracking those who abuse the system. Illegals getting paid cash and not paying taxes? Well, I think that if we implement the other ideas here, then that won’t really be a problem. If not, we could move to a VAT or sales tax like the Fair Tax. I’m not a huge fan of that, for a number of reasons. (Some rebuttal to these points here). My personal opinion is that anything that makes taxes easier to pay is a bad thing, and building the tax into the price of goods is as bad as what withholding did to us. I know how much I paid in taxes last year, and if I had had to write a check for it all at once, I would have been much more pissed off than I already am about it.  I do believe that the Fair Tax would do at least one good thing, and that would be to reduce the power of our government representatives, and that is also why I believe that it will never come to be.

[…] The War on Immigration Will Fail - Mises Institute An article from Mises agreeing with my previous statement about the actual underlying problem with immigration (at least from an economic standpoint) is.  The problem is not the fact that these people are coming here illegally, the problem is that we have this handout infrastructure that they then take advantage of (hey, why not?).
